Parque Europa

Si te gusta viajar y conocer mundo, pero tu bolsillo no te permite darte el lujo de hacer un viajecito, hoy te traigo una alternativa: el Parque Europa.

Situado al noreste de Madrid, en la localidad de Torrejón de Ardoz, e inaugurado en 2010, es un amplio recinto que cuenta con 17 réplicas de algunos de los monumentos europeos más importantes, además de con un fragmento original del muro de Berlín. Algunos de ellos son la Torre Eiffel, la Fontana de Trevi, el Atomium, el Puente de Londres, la Puerta de Alcalá... ¡pero hay muchos más!

Las réplicas están bastante conseguidas (aunque, claro, no te esperes una Torre Eiffel de 330 metros) y es un lugar muy agradable para pasear y pasar una buena tarde. Además, no tendrás excusa para visitarlo, puesto que la entrada es gratuita. También hay restaurantes y se realizan algunas actividades y celebraciones (comuniones, cumpleaños...). Asimismo, el parque tiene zonas de ocio, como un embarcadero, zonas de juego para los niños, tirolinas, barcas infantiles...

A pesar de que yo lo visité en invierno y mi visita fue bastante satisfactoria, recomiendo visitarlo en primavera-verano porque seguramente se disfrute más. Hay muchas formas de llegar: en coche, autobús, Renfe... Pero si vas en Renfe (parada de Torrejón de Ardoz) es necesario coger después un autobús una vez llegas a Torrejón.

If you like travelling and discovering the world, but you can't afford to go on a trip, today I offer you an alternative: the Parque Europa ("Europe Park").

Located on the north east of Madrid, in the locality of Torrejón de Ardoz, and inaugurated in 2010, it is a large area with 17 replicas of some of the most important European monuments and an original fragment of the Berlin Wall. Some of them are the Eiffel Tower, the Trevi Fountain, the Atomium, the London Bridge, the Alcalá Gate... but there are many more!

The replicas are quite well (but , of course, don't expect to find an Eiffel Tower of 330 metres). It's a very nice place to go for a walk and have an enjoyable evening. Furthermore, you will have no excuse to visit it since you don't have to pay anything to come in. In addition, there are some restaurants, they make activities and you can celebrate things like communions or birthdays. The park has leisure zones too: a pier, playing areas for kids, zip-lines, small boats for children...

Despite the fact that I visited it in winter and I really enjoyed my visit, I recommend you to visit it in spring-summer because you would probably enjoy yourself better. There are many ways to get there: by car, bus, Renfe... If you choose Renfe (stop: Torrejón de Ardoz), bear in mind that you will need to get a bus once you get to Torrejón.

Jardín de Cactus (Lanzarote)

En la isla canaria de Lanzarote se encuentra uno de los lugares que conozco que más me ha impresionado. Se trata del Jardín de Cactus, un museo-jardín obra de César Manrique (arquitecto al que debemos prácticamente todas las maravillas de Lanzarote).

In the island of Lanzarote (Canary Islands) you can find one of the most impressive places that I know. It is the Jardín de Cactus (Cactus Garden), a garden-museum built by César Manrique (the architect to whom we owe almost all the wonders in Lanzarote).   

He de decir que me asombró bastante, ya que jamás llegué a pensar que pudieran existir tantos tipos distintos de cactus. Y es que en el parque encontramos más de mil especies diferentes y a cada cual más bonita, aunque, sin duda, yo me quedo con los que aparecen en las tres fotos de aquí abajo.

I must say that it really amazed me, as I had never thought that there could be so many different types of cactus. In fact, we find more than one thousand of different species in the park, each more beautiful. However, my favourite ones, without a doubt, are those that appear in the three photos below. 

La visita al parque no dura mucho dado que el recinto no es muy amplio (aunque lo suficientemente grande como para albergar más de 7000 ejemplares de cactus). Además de los cactus, al fondo hay un molino al cual se puede subir. El parque también cuenta con un restaurante-cafetería y una tienda de souvenirs. Para acceder hay que comprar entrada, pero la más cara (la de adultos) no pasa de los 5,50€.

The visit to the park doesn't last much because it isn't very large (although it's big enough to contain more than 7000 cactus). Apart from de cactus, there's a mill which is accessible. The park also includes a restaurant/café and a shop where you can buy souvenirs. To get in you have to pay an entrance fee, but the most expensive one (the one for adults) doesn't cost more than 5,50€ .

Poco más hay que decir puesto que una imagen vale más que mil palabras (y yo no os dejo solo una, sino unas cuantas). Así que, si después de verlas os enamoráis tanto como yo del jardín, no dudéis en visitarlo. Eso sí, ¡que no se os olvide la cámara!

I don't have much more to say since an image is worth more than a thousand words (and I haven't post only one, but lots of them). Therefore, if after watching them you fall in love with the garden as much as I did, don't hesitate to visit it. But don't forget to bring your camera! 

Madrid Río

En primer lugar, quería que supierais que los días en los que voy a actualizar el blog serán los domingos. Cada semana os traeré nuevos lugares (ya sean nacionales o internacionales) con muchas muchas fotos.

Firstly, I want you to know that the days when I'm going to update the blog are Sundays. I'll post loooots of pictures from new places every week (either from my own country or international).

Para mi primera entrada he elegido uno de mis lugares favoritos de Madrid. Se trata del Madrid Río, un parque relativamente nuevo (se terminó de construir en el 2011) a ambos lados del río Manzanares.

Con más de 10 kilómetros de longitud, es el lugar ideal para realizar todo tipo de actividades. Los más deportistas pueden disfrutar de las sendas ciclables que hay a lo largo de todo el parque para montar en bici, correr o patinar. Además, el parque cuenta, entre otras cosas, con un campo de fútbol que se puede alquilar para jugar y con un skatepark donde decenas de jóvenes acuden cada día con sus skates y bicicletas.

For my first post, I've chosen one of my favourite places to go for a walk in Madrid. It's the Madrid Río, a relatively new park (it was built in 2011) on both sides of the Manzanares River.

With more than 10 km in length (6 mi approx.), it's the ideal place to make all sort of activities. Sporty people can enjoy all the cycle lanes that you can find along the park where you can ride a bike, run and do roller skating. In addition, the park includes, among other things, a football field that you can rent to play and a skatepark where loads of teenagers go with their skates and bikes every day.

Los peques de la casa tampoco se aburrirán, pues a lo largo de todo el parque hay un montón de cosas pensadas para ellos: zonas de juego, toboganes, columpios colgados de los puentes, tirolinas... Y, mientras, los padres pueden estar tomando algo tranquilamente en alguna de las muchas terrazas que hay repartidas por el parque.

Children won't get bored either, as along the park there are many things to do for them: play areas, slides, swings hanging from the bridges, zip-lines... And, meanwhile, parents can be drinking something in any of the cafés that there are in the park.

Aparte de todas las actividades que se pueden realizar, el parque en sí es una maravilla y, para mí, uno de los mejores sitios para pasear. Son muchos los puentes que cruzan el río de un lado a otro y algunos son verdaderamente espectaculares. Mi favorito es el que os muestro a continuación, llamado Puente de Perrault, aunque a la altura del Matadero hay dos puentes decorados con mosaicos que también merece la pena mencionar. Otra cosa curiosa son sus larguísimos bancos donde te puedes sentar a descansar.

Apart from all the activities that you can make, the park itself is a wonder and, for me, one of the best places to go for a walk. There are many bridges crossing the river from one side to another and some of them are really impressive. My favourite one is the one that I show you below, called Perrault Bridge, although there are two other bridges decorated with a tile at the height of the Matadero which are worth mentioning. Another curious thing is its super long benches where you can sit to have a rest.

Como ya he dicho, es un lugar perfecto para pasear pero, eso sí, que no sea en verano porque la temperatura es muy alta y el parque no tiene ninguna sombra. Aunque siempre puedes visitar la "Playa de Madrid" y refrescarte. Se trata de una superficie con chorros de agua que salen del suelo rodeada de un área con tumbonas donde tomar el sol, pero solo funciona en verano. ¡Perfecta para los días más calurosos!

As I've already said, this is a perfect place to walk but be careful not to do it in summer because the temperature is so high and there is no shade throughout the park. However, you could visit "Madrid Beach" and cool off. It's a space with streams of water coming from the ground surrounded by an area provided with deck chairs where you can sunbathe. It only operates during the summer. Just perfect for the hottest days!

Esto es solo una pequeña muestra del parque, pero esconde muchas cosas más, así que os animo a que lo visitéis cuando tengáis la ocasión.
